Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef

  • ½ cup yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 13.5 ounces Five Cheese Texas Toast (8 slices)
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef for about 4 to 5 minutes until fully cooked. Use a slotted spoon to transfer it to a plate and drain excess fat.
  3. In the same skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the onions until soft (2 to 3 minutes).
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and reserved beef. Bring to a boil then simmer for about 7 to 8 minutes until thickened.
  5. Place frozen Texas toast on the prepared tray with cheese side up; bake for about 6 minutes until golden.
  6. Top each slice with nearly half a cup of the sloppy Joe mixture and add about a quarter cup of shredded mozzarella on top.
  7. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until cheese melts.
