  • 1 and 1/3 cups 1% milk
  • 1 Tbsp active dry yeast
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 8 Tbsp salted or unsalted butter
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup poppy seeds
  • 8 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 egg white (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk and sprinkle yeast over it; let it foam for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a mixer, combine eggs, sugar, butter, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Mix well and gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 2 hours until doubled.
  4. Grind poppy seeds finely. Mix with sweetened condensed milk and raisins to create the filling.
  5. Punch down the risen dough, divide into four portions, roll out each into rectangles, and spread filling evenly.
  6. Roll tightly into logs, seal edges, and place seam-side down on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Brush with egg white.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown.
