  • 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes (undrained)
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 head green cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup onion (chopped fine)
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dill
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup sauce (that has been mixed together)

Instructions

  1. Prepare cabbage leaves by boiling the whole head in water for two minutes. Peel off leaves carefully.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. In a bowl, mix diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, brown sugar, white vinegar, and water to create the sauce.
  4. Spread a layer of sauce in a baking dish.
  5. In a skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef with onions and seasonings until cooked through; stir in garlic.
  6. Combine cooked rice and egg into the meat mixture off heat.
  7. Trim thick stems from cabbage leaves and fill each with about ⅓ cup of meat mixture; roll tightly.
  8. Place rolls seam side down in the baking dish and cover with remaining sauce.
  9. Bake covered for about 1 hour and 30 minutes until heated through.
