  • 16 ounces spaghetti pasta (white or whole wheat)
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • ¾ cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 48 ounces marinara sauce
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (divided)
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add onions and sauté until softened. Increase heat to medium-high; add ground beef, cooking until browned. Drain excess grease.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and cook briefly. Add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper; let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Mix in ¼ cup Parmesan with the sauce, then combine with cooked spaghetti in the skillet.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for about 30 minutes; uncover and bake an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
